Taste Paradise: Gili Meno serves up good food & drink
Your accommodation may have its own restaurant, or there’s plenty of choice around the island for both local ‘warungs’ and resort restaurants.
A fusion of flavours and local cuisine to savour
Gili Meno boasts a thriving food and drink scene that will tantalize your taste buds and leave you craving for more. From traditional Indonesian cuisine to international delicacies, the island’s restaurants and cafes showcase a fusion of flavours that reflect the cultural diversity of the region.
Many hotels, B&Bs and private villas have restaurants and cafes which feature a mix of all cuisines. There are also local restaurants around the beach and in the villages that offer authentic Indonesian and Sasak food, as well as your Western favourites. If you’re lucky, you might be entertained by the locals playing their guitars.
Selamat makan (happy eating)
Local delicacies, fresh fish & seafood is aplenty
While on island time, go ahead and try out the local delicacies. Immerse yourself in the local culinary traditions by trying nasi goreng (fried rice), satay (grilled skewered meat), and gado-gado (vegetable salad with peanut sauce). Of course, seafood here reigns supreme with an abundance of fish, prawns, squid and lobster all fresh from the ocean. Try lightly spiced fish wrapped in banana leaf served with sauteed vegetables and coconut rice, known as Pepes Ikan. Or, fresh fish grilled over coconut charcoal and served with rice and spicy sambal, known as Ikan Bakar.
If you’re in the mood for something more international, you’ll find various restaurants offering Western cuisine. Savour wood-fired pizzas, loaded burgers and pasta dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.
To quench your thirst, Gili Meno’s vibrant bar scene beckons with refreshing tropical cocktails, locally brewed craft beers and freshly squeezed fruit juices. Relax by the beachside bars and watch the sunset while sipping on your favourite drink.
Unwind and Dine: Gili Meno’s Restaurants, Bars & Beachfront Cafés
You may be surprised at both the quality and variety of dining options available – with so many people visiting from all over the world, and a large number of expats who have settled here to run businesses on the island, you can get virtually any style of food you’re craving, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary requirements. However, for the most authentic experience, try one of the many Warungs around the island. Take a look at their Google reviews to pick your must-visits.
Whether it’s a restaurant, café, beach bar or takeaway you’re looking for, you’ll find a little of everything when it comes to good food on Meno.
